Ahh, summer is finally in full swing and the smell of burgers and dogs are ever-present as we spend most of our time enjoying the sun. But between the meats, marinades and sauces, your grill might be feeling the heat. In order to ensure the best tasting barbecue and a long-lasting life for your grill, it's important to keep it clean. We went to Mrs. Meyer for the go-to guide on keeping a gorgeous grill - all season long.
Cleaning the Grate
1. Place the grate from your grill on the lawn or driveway and remove any large pieces of cooked-on food with a grill brush.
2. Make a paste of baking soda and water.
3. Reuse an old, but clean paintbrush to coat the paste on the grate, let set for fifteen minutes.
4. Use a strong stream of water to remove the mixture. For tough areas, use a scrubbing sponge or brush.
Gas Grill
1. To get your gas grill grease-free after eating burgers, close the lid and turn the heat on high for about fifteen minutes to cook off the excess food.
2. Let the grill cool completely, then roll some tinfoil into a ball and use it to scrub the grates and burners. Use a pipe cleaner to get food remnants out of any holes.
3. To clean the exterior, wipe it down with dishwashing liquid and water and rinse well.
Charcoal Grill
1. Cleaning a charcoal grill, use a plastic putty knife to remove grease and grime.
2. Then use steel wool, hot water and mild dishwashing liquid to clean it all up. Vinegar is great for getting out grease stains, too.
3. To make your charcoal grill last season after season, sprinkle half an inch of sand at the bottom of the canister to catch hot grease.
