For their new book, Wallpaper Projects, husband and wife design duo Derek Fagerstrom and Lauren Smith came up with a series of ideas on how you can use wallpaper (off the wall) with smaller projects around the home. From covering cannisters to toppers for tv trays, they've certainly strayed from the conventional use of wallpaper to show people how to incorporate prints and patterns without paying a fortune. We've included five of our faves from the book!

Whether they're in the kitchen, home office or bathroom, jars and cannisters are a great way to store various items. With a small amount of materials, you can give your storage containers a makeover. They will be so pretty, you won't have to worry about what's inside!

Why not serve up your favorite snacks in style? Or use trays like these to organize items on your desk or vanity. Consider applying a sheet of contact paper on top of the wallpaper to avoid stains.

We've seen top interior designers use custom-made lampshades to add character, and now you can learn how to achieve this look easily. If you have a lamp that is part of a larger room, consider a subtle style that will accent its focal features. For a smaller room (and a smaller lamp), perhaps a bolder print will add a pop to the room's design.

For even the most decisive designers out there, choosing wallpaper can be overwhelming. So if you can't decide on one, choose a couple that complement each other. Derek and Lauren chose a muted pattern for the wall with vinyl flowers for the base, which makes for an eye-catching design without giving you a headache.
